Hello, Apart from having

Hello,

Apart from having very similar names, I am also interested in visiting these countries and have also considered going away during the summer months. I have spent nearly a year in Sri Lanka and about 6 weeks in India.

How are your plans going?

I am really interested in

I am really interested in your trip idea, I just wish it was for May 2011! I have been to Thailand three times and would love to travel around Asia for 3-6 months. I don't smoke, drink a couple of glasses of wine (maximum) at any one time. I'm 54, quite slim and fit and love sightseeing. I would really appreciate you sharing your budget/ plans etc with me. I can't see how SE Asia could disappoint anyone.

Hi Helena. What a great

Hi Helena. What a great name! Sorry for my slow response. Idea 2 sounds great to me. Your plan of moving through towns and villages sounds fascinating and something I would like to try. I have mainly travelled in Europe and have seen a little of North America. I have no experience of the Far East but am full of desire to visit. I am not keen on heat and so don't sunbathe but do like walking along beaches early morning and late afternoon, when my pale skin can be exposed to the sun without fear of burning. I too am also keen on seeing temples and other architecture and sharing time and food with the local people. I am not a smoker but I do take the odd glass or two of wine from time to time. It would be good to perhaps talk a little further about timings etc. I am also in contact with another T&L member who is interested in seeing Thailand later this year. I have dropped her a line and directed her to this trip idea. Bye for now. Helena

Hi again. Well, it seems that

Hi again. Well, it seems that we can get along enough to travel for some months together! :)
I only have the experience of Japan but that was easy as I stayed with a family. It will be high adventure for us.
I dont sunbathe either, I keep myself in the shade!, and ofcourse I enjoy a wine or a beer here and there, but not getting drunk.
Invite the other member and then we can all submit an itinerary, make a general one with the ideas of all.
Then I can start researching the prices on hotels, hostels, flights... etc and come out with a budget, and finally we just set the date.
We have a year, sounds a lot but will go quickly!!.

sorry Ive somehow lost the

sorry Ive somehow lost the beginning of my reply. The gist was that as much as id love to go with you Im not well enough Look at my profile. Helennab has contacted me I think you ought to talk to her as she is planning a similar trip for about the same amount of time Talk to me again if you think I can advise

Hiya! I am planning to do it

Hiya! I am planning to do it spring 2012. I had never been there, no. I cant wait to see those beautiful places!
My idea 1 is India-Burma-Thailand-Laos-Cambodia-Vietnam.
Idea 2 Thailand-Laos-Cambodia-Vietnam-Malaysia-Indonesia-Philipines.
Kind of prefer plan 2. What do you think?
I travel very light and live on a shoestring.
I mean, if there is something worth paying for like a massage or something like that I think we can indulge! LOL
I do tend to eat where locals do, and get around like the locals, try to at least learn to say: Thank you and Please.
The idea is to keep moving, 2-3 days per city/village/beach and I have done so previously but in easy to travel places like america, mexico and europe, it will be a challenge to do it in asia, but I quite fancy a culture shock. I had travelled round japan, but it was different as I stayed with a family.
What is your idea of traveling? what do you like?
My idea is to see the temples, cities, attractions and I dont smoke, dont drink much, tend not to go to bars/nightclubs and get up early- go to sleep early too.
I like music, reading and as an art historian, I do go to see the houses, churches, temples, and folkart; although I am not religious, I do believe in God and love to see the ways people relate to God, I am profoundly respectful of that.
So, if you think this can be your style of travel, I would love to have a companion, good for a change as I always travel alone. :)

medication can be bought over

medication can be bought over the counter but it is out of date and the instructions are in Thaietc Clothing - you will find clothes if you are a petite, flat chested size 10 otherwise take what you need with you Not easy if you plan to travel light. When I can afford it I would like to do Cambodia and Laos but I already know that beyond the cities the tourist infrastructure will be basic Thailand is a breeze I would start there if I were you. Bangkok is the hub you can fly almost anywhere in se Asia from there Im happy to give you any more info. Have a good trip
