hong kong or japan

so I'v been pondering for a while either a trip to Hong Kong or Japan or both. I can't come to a decision, to be honest I think i'm a little scared as they are both so far away and don't know much about them or know anyone else whos been or who would like to come with me. Its a big trip in my eyes! Any advice or words of wisdom or anyone who shares my feelings please help me out! xxx
Japan is safest for anyone. Hongkong is also safe. Just dont go anywhere under the alleys in Hongkong.
I've been to Hong Kong and would highly recommend it. I was on my own through-out the trip and felt 100% safe - safer than in the UK. The transport system is so easy to navigate and from my first day of arriving I was on the underground and hoping on and off buses. Within 24 hours I felt like a resident as I was so comfortable and confident.
HK is a real cuture shock (for the good) as it's so different from Europe, but WOW what an amazing experience. Some of the day trips you can take from HK are just wonderful and good for the soul.
Punishment for crimes in HK are very severe, hence why their crime record is in the top 10 of the lowest in the world. The main thing to avoid are pick-pockets and passport theft so just make sure you keep your passport in your room and be aware of your money when you are out and about.
Anyone under the age of 40 will speak English and most of the road names/signs are also in English - so finding things is VERY easy.
I loved it so much I can't wait to go back.
If you decide to go to Hong Kong I would be more than happy for you to PM me and I can give you some recommendations.
Hi I have been to Hong Kong wonderful place leave lots of room in your luggage for all the lovely handbags and beautiful silks I went at least 15 years ago and stayed on Kowloon Island so got the ferry boat every day. Also spent the day on christmas day going around the harbour on a chinese junk with a lady from New Zealand will never forget that enjoy Michelle
Michelle, did you go on a day trip to Lantau Island? This is a must for anyone visiting HK. You get to
visit the giant Buddha, stop off at Tai o fishing village where you transfer on to a little boat and ride through the water alleys in-between the houses on stilts. The organised lunch is with the monks in their monastery and the walk around the monastery afterwards was inspiring. You finish off your time on the island with a cable car ride down the mountain with beautiful views.

I also have fond memories of my Junk ride. It was near the end of the day and I was the only one going out. The Junk driver was a local lady aged about 90 years old. She spent the whole time mumbling and dare I say it shouting at me in Chinese. She kept going off piste to talk to her neighbours and drop off shopping (she even had an argument with another Junk) - it was hilarious and I wasn't scared at all (ermmm well just a little). The Junk ride should have lasted 30 minutes but I was out there for over 1 hour - it was brilliant and an amazing memory.
The top of Victoria Peak is another must do experience when in HK. I didn't bother paying for the tram and took a public bus. A far cheaper way to get to the top and an exhilarating and scary experience if your driver was like mine (but again it all added to the fun of it).
