I am in Singapore and I am looking for a travel partner for a week or so to go to Penang,or Mallacca, Cameron Highlands or Kochin. I like to look at old buildings, at least one museum and the local ambiance. I am not looking to spend too much time on a beach. This would be December 2012 or January 2013.

Was there two years ago and Malaca is a short bus ride from Singapore, so easy to go there. Interesting history &very safe place, would like to go back and explore more but cannot do it that time.
I wish you you a great trip.

What places did you visit? Anything you would recommend, that involve a short flight or bus-ride? Places to stay etc? I am not thinking of going to the Cameron Highlands, stopping in Kuala Lumpur and then heading for Mallaca.

I had only 2 days in Mallaca , a 4 hours bus ride away from Singapore. I stayed at the Courtyard at Heeren, a small boutique hotel in the center of Mallaca. Being a former capital and harbour, Malacca has a rich history and it's nice to stroll the streets, visiting the temples and mosques, lots of shops too as it's the weekend getaway of the Singaporians.
Unfortunately I haven't seen more of Malasia.
Hope that it helps.
