High platforms...and I don't mean shoes!

The viewing platform of the Shard in London has opened today! It's Europe's tallest building, but a ticket costs £25. Would the view be worth it? Are you going to see it?
That is expensive but I'm sure I will go. I will hold out for a while to see if I receive a corporate invite first. My brother is on the waiting list for an apartment in the building - you bid an amount and then go on some sort of waiting list (or something like that).
I've been to a few viewing platforms over the years (Burj Khali and Empire States to name a couple) and I've thoroughly enjoyed each one and glad I spent the money.
The memories of the amazing city views you see stay with you for a lifetime.
Hi Ana dont do heights - i wont be going - i drained of colour from a fantastic tan to white when i went up the tower in Florence - all open stairs oh goodness i felt so sick but enjoy whoever goes up it will give you a lovely view M
Me too M, cant even go on the Wheel - even my grandson was wanting me to go - and i just couldnt..felt awful...Went in a helicopter once = in Marlborough, flew over the corn circles..Jesus, was bad but ..just the door and then nothing...could never do the helicopter ride over NY or the Grand Canyon..oh...makes me shudder..jellly legs! Get wobbly if I walk over a bridge!
Think its an age thing..used to dive off the top diving board as a kid..not now!
I love heights but only ones that I reckon are 99.9999% safe so I am booked to go up the Shard as a birthday treat this month. I wil let you know what its like when I have been later in Feb!
Will look forward to hearing about that Pam ! I have been up the Empire State and Top of the Rock in New York and loved it. The one I didn't like was in Las Vegas, somehow the very flat land around stretching away made me feel off balance (vertigo?) - and you can actually go on a rollercoaster type ride on the outside of that one - scary. Grand Canyon - spent ages talking my mother into going in the helicopter - when we finally went up she loved it and I was terrified, sat there having to do my yoga breathing to keep calm !
Hi Pam yes let us all know what the view is like - I wont be able to go M x
I'm going up a week today so will let you know what it's like - fingers crossed for a nice sunny day!
Out of interest I thought I would take a look at the height differences of some of London's viewing platforms and the numbers are surprising. It really helps put the height of The Shard into perspective.
St Pauls 365ft
London Eye 443ft
The Gherkin 570ft
BT Tower 620ft
The Shard 1016ft
Amazing! have a great pic of it..not sure i can get it on here
There was an interactive "view from the Shard" in The Guardian online yesterday. If you google it, it will bring it up and you can go in and have a 360 degree view.
Thanks for that tip I shall try that today.
Hi Ladies,
Jenshep and myself have recently been to Dubai and 'did' the Burj Khalifa. l did have reservations as l am not normally a height person but surprised myself as l really enjoyed it and so glad l went up the world's tallest building... The viewing platform is on floor 124 at 1483 feet !! and the views were incredible. When we were on the elevator ( lasts one minute ) you wouldn't even know you were moving swiftly upwards....Hope the Shard is equally as good for all and when in London will try that out. By the way we had a great time and we hope to go back to Thailand next year- now l will just now have to adjust to the cold !!
Val.
