Walk This Wey- a riverside walk from Guildford to Godalming.

Date:
07/07/2021 (All day)

As I'll be staying in the area for a week, I'd like to invite everyone to join me on a 5 mile walk along the River Wey, starting in Guildford and finishing in Godalming.

Here's a description of the walk:

It's all level walking, leaving Guildford on the Riverside Walk and making our way along the tow path of the Godalming Navigation, which opened the River Wey to barge traffic between Guildford and Godalming in 1763. You may see grey herons, a horse drawn barge, and certainly some narrow boats. The walk will take 2-2.5hrs, and half way along we could have lunch at the Parrot Inn at Shalford, maybe in their garden, if the weather is good:

An alternative is to take a picnic, -we could pick up something in Guildford before we set out..

Towards the end of the walk,at Farncombe Boat House, there is a cafe by the water for more refreshments (see, I think of the important things!) and if you fancy it, and the weather is kind, you can hire a rowing boat or canoe for a short paddle.

OR if you would like to come, but not do the walk, you could visit Guildford in the morning and we could arrange to meet you at the Parrot (if you have a car), or we could  do the complete walk to to Godalming, and all eat there.

From Godalming its a 10 minute train ride back to Guildford, or half an hour on the bus.Or you could arrange for someone to leave their car there to ferry others back.. Depending on how much time we have (and how much we have eaten!) we could explore Godalming town which has an interesting Museum, or Guildford itself, which has a cathedral, a castle, and lots of shops!

Guildford is 33 mins by train from London Waterloo Station. There is parking at the station and nearby, so I propose we meet at Guildford Station at 1000 am, and take it from there.

Everyone welcome, especially new Members. Hope to see you there for a lovely day out.

xxAnita
