Royal Marines Commando 4K Fun Challenge

Date:
04/09/2021 (All day) - 07/09/2021 (All day)
Address:
Devon
United Kingdom

This is an enquiry ONLY (please do not book train tickets or accommodation).

This is an event as well as a trip, but for now I'm listing it in Events in order to gauge interested.

TAKE PART IN THE ROYAL MARINES COMMANDO 4K FUN CHALLENGE FOR CHARITY.  The inspiration behind this is because my son is currently in Royal Marines Commando recruit training.

Currently there are four of us (T&L Ladies) who are interested in taking part as a team (minimum 3 people needed per team with no upper limit).  When you apply for team entry you must include your entry costs which are £29.00 per person.  Each individual team member has to commit to raising at least £60.00 in sponsorship money.

  • Either make your own way there.
  • The 4 of us who are interested currently plan to travel to Lympstone on Thursday 4th September via train (3 hours from London) and leaving mid morning (train tickets from London if booked in advance are around £50.00).  One of our group is still contemplating driving to Lympstone.
  • Stay locally in a B&B (£30/£40 per person per night).  Everyone will be responsible for booking their own accommodation or liaising with other attendees to secure twin rooms.
  • If you live locally you might want to take part in the challenge only and not bother with overnight accommodation.
  • We are thinking to arrive on the Thursday to make a long weekend of it and enjoy the local area on the Friday.
  • Pub dinner Thursday and Friday evening.
  • Saturday morning travelling by taxi to the Royal Marines Commando base, where the Commandos will then take us by army trucks to the start of the endurance course (details of the challenge are on their website).
  • Take part in the Commando Challenge (OMG) and eventually head back to our local accommodation to get cleaned up (hopefully we will be hosed down before we leave).
  • Saturday evening we would either go out to a local pub for dinner (and perhaps mix it up with teams who like us have completed the challenge), or as 2014 will be the 350 year anniversary for the Royal Marine Commandos they are contemplated putting on evening mini festival, with bar, bands, food (they are asking people to email if you would be interested in attending something like this).
  • Sunday return home

There is no getting aware from the fact that this will be physically challenging and the four of us who are already interested and in no way fit (age range 45-55).  It will require some training prior to the event, but we are seeing this as a way to motivate ourselves to try and lose some much needed weight (I'm speaking for myself here and not for the 3 other ladies).

Entry opens in a week or two and places usually go fast (each year they sell out quickly), so if you are interested in joining the challenge you will need to be able to transfer your entry money of £29.00 to me via bank transfer to confirm your place in the team.

Take a look around their website and see what you think:

If you are interested but still undecided then please include yourself as maybe attending, but if you definately want to do this then put yourself down as confirmed (at this stage is still doesn't mean you are committed as I'm just trying to gauge how many people are serious about taking part).
