Oxford- Day out- or weekend if enough people interested

Event type
At a London event on 9 April several T & L members were interested in a day out. Venue of choice was Oxford. There is so much to see and do that we are spoilt for choice but I aim to make the main visit of the day to the exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum. It is a wonderful chance to see "Heracles to Alexander the Great, Treasures from the Royal Capital of Macedon" Tickets are £8 or £6 for concessions. In the first major archaeological exhibition in the new temporary exhibition galleries, the Ashmolean Museum will showcase over five hundred treasures made of gold, silver and bronze, recently found in the royal burial tombs and the palace of Aegae, the ancient capital of Macedon. I would suggest aiming for an 11 am visit. We probably have to book for a specific time slot.
Of course, there are plenty of other things to see and do. The Pitt Rivers Museum has 2 fascinating exhibitions, "Wilfred Thesiger in Africa" and "The Buchen of Spiti". There is also an exhibition on tThe King James Bible at the Bodleian Library. The Bodleian Library Summer 2011 exhibition tells the story of the most frequently printed book in English language, the King James Bible. Exploring the political, religious and intellectual context of its time, the exhibition looks at the events and conditions that led to and shaped this translation enterprise.
We could do a walk around some of the architectural sites of Oxford . And have a meal, either lunch or early evening.
There may be people who would like to make a weekend of it and stay overnight in which case we would need to look at making room bookings soon.
This is not geared solely for people coming from London, I hope people from other regions or who live in the area may want to meet up with the group even if just for a drink or a meal. However those coming from London may want to travel together - there are several options, train, coach, car- so it would help when you respond if you say that you would like to travel with others and sau your preferred method of travel.
Once I get some kind of idea of the response to this- and please say if you have any things that you would specifically like to do, restaurants to recommend etc.- I'll put on some more details and a rough plan of the day/weekend.

I too would love to come for a weekend - Oxford rooms are an excellent idea. Won't be able to make it on the 4th as I have a previous commitment that cannot be changed. Why oh why must everything come at once!! I hope the sun shines for you.

I'll definitely join you for the day on the 4th but can't stay over. I would be interested in making a weekend of it if another trip is planned. Elaine

There are a number of rooms
There are a number of rooms available within walking distance of the city centre (that is under 2 km) Some are B & B - Becket House, Eurobar Cafe and Hotel, Whitehouse View Guest House and there is one with a pool and spa if you fancy some relaxation - Oxford Spires Hotel. There are singles available or twins in all but the last as I type but we would need to book soon if you want to stay the night.
That sounds like a plan. I

Hi Barbara, I will be coming
Hi Barbara, I will be coming along too. I will be taking the train from London, so would be happy to meet up with others who are also taking the train and then travel up together.
As for activities, how about a trip to Bicester Village shopping outlet (www.bicestervillage.com) for the shopaholics who will be attending?!
I would strongly advise anybody planning on staying overnight in Oxford to book their room ASAP. There seems to be a real shortage of single and twin rooms.
Lucy and I managed to get in at the 4* Oxford Holiday Inn (with swimming pool!) which is reasonably priced.
