DŁUGI TARG

Długi Targ, a broad short street that runs on from Ulica Długa and terminates at
the Green Gate on the River Motława, is the final part of the Royal Way leading
from the Golden Gate through to the city centre. It also functioned as a
marketplace as well as a site for the public execution of aristocratic
prisoners. The townhouses on Długi Targ, like those elsewhere in the old town,
were destroyed in 1945 but have been restored. Today the square is filled with
souvenir shops. Its focal point is the Fountain of Neptune, which was installed
outside Artus Court in 1633.
