The Great Mill (Wielki Młyn) was one of the largest industrial buildings in
medieval Europe. It was constructed during the rule of the Teutonic Knights,
being completed in around 1350. It is built in brick and is crowned by a tall,
steeply pitched roof.

At the front of the building stood a two-storey bakery with a chimney set against
the gable of the mill which reached the height of its roof. Beside the mill
stood 12, later 18, large poles to which millstones were attached for grinding
various types of grain. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1945, but was restored
after World War II. This remarkable old building now contains a modern shopping
centre.
