  • World Gold-Panning
    Championships (May).

Derived from the Polish word złoto , meaning gold, the town’s
name reflects the fact that the gold-rich sands of the River Kaczawa, which
flows through Złotoryja, have been exploited since the Early Middle Ages. Even
today gold-seekers flock to contests organized by the local gold-panning
association.

Features of interest in Złotoryja include the Gothic Church of St
Mary
(Kościół NMP), which has a 13th-century presbytery, and the
remains of the town walls.
