The perfect antidote to Ocho Rios, the Cranbrook Flower Forest offers 130 acres (53 ha) of beautifully landscaped gardens and a thriving forest, all threaded with paths. Shaded by palms and planted with all kinds of beautiful tropical blooms, from heliconias, philodendrons, birds of paradise, hibiscus, and begonias to an amazing display of orchids, the flower gardens are exquisite.
The other highlight is the River Head Adventure Tour which begins at the entrance lawns. It is a lovely walk through the unspoilt tropical forest along the bank of the Little River. The trail leads up to where the river rises from a spring to form a 20-ft (6-m) wide intensely blue natural pool. Elsewhere on-site, visitors can fish for tilapia, picnic on the lawns surrounding the central building, a restored sugar mill, or go bird-watching or take part in an adrenaline-filled canopy tour.
The lush grounds make this a popular place for weddings and it is possible to rent just the location or have Cranbrook make all the arrangements. There is also a small gift and snack shop near the entrance.
