FIREFLY

  • 43 miles (69 km) NW of Kingston.
  • 9am–5pm daily.

Sitting pretty above the village of Port Maria, Firefly was the Jamaican home of the well-known English playwright, actor, and songwriter Noel Coward (1899–1973) and his partner, Graham Payn (1918–2005), who both lived here until Coward’s death. The simple 1950s house, a retreat from his first Jamaican home Blue Harbour which became overrun with houseguests, has been left as it was. Photographs on the walls show the famous visitors to his residence, from Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn to Queen Elizabeth II. Perhaps best known as the songwriter who composed such quintessentially English ditties as “Mad Dogs and Englishmen”, Coward also wrote many plays, some of them in this house. However, the main attraction is the fabulous view that Firefly affords of the coastline below, with Cabarita Island in the foreground.
